Artwork Made With Fabric

There has been a huge, gaping space above our bed for far too long. It was time to do something about it. I know, I know, I should be working on that duvet cover and shams. But Alex said he couldn’t take the empty wall anymore, so we decided to hang something.

We went to Ikea to buy some fabric. For wall art, you need something bold. Regular fabric stores usually don’t have a wide selection of bold, large prints.

We found 2 fabrics we liked, but decided to hang this orange print. I think it goes well with the blue curtains.

The process was really simple. We bought some pieces of frames – the wood pieces you buy and assemble for stretching canvas. We cut the fabric to size, and attached it to the frame. I couldn’t find my industrial stapler, so I used thumb tacks. They worked better, I think. Easy to push into the soft wood frames, and easy to take out for repositioning.

We’re going to do the same thing in our living room, once we find some fabric we like for that room.

Cost for this project?  About $26 for the wood frame pieces, and $9 for 1 1/2 yards of fabric.

These curtains look fab. My mum did the same thing with a massive wall in one of the houses we lived in before the quilting bug completely took over (now she makes massive art quilts to hide large walls). Thanks for the trip down memory lane and the tip on thumb tacks for the frames. :D
