I saw your generous giveaway at Sew Mama Sew and popped over here to take a peek and throw my name in the hat. I’ve been making fabric lunch totes for family, friends and more – inspired by another link from Sew Mama Sew (http://sewingnotions.blogspot.com/2008/04/squareish-bottomed-hobo-lunchbag.html) and then using scraps to make some handy chapstick holders that clip onto keychains (no pictures of those). I’ve also been cutting lots and lots and lots of remnants into 1″ squares for a watercolor project kick that I am on – http://thequeenbeesbuzz.blogspot.com/2008/05/remains-of-day.html – so remnants are well used at my house.

I just started my blog and just got a sewing machine so I haven’t been sewing yet but I plan to make a skirt for my daughter from The Long Thread’s tutorial here: http://thelongthread.com/?p=527 and also a bag from this tutorial on Tinyhappy: http://www.tinyhappy.typepad.com/tiny_happy/2006/06/shoulder_bag_tu.html
Hopefully I can get my machine up and running tonight!

Sweet giveaway!! I mainly use my remnants and scraps for scrap quilts – mostly string quilts, as I can use whatever fabrics I have, no matter what color/pattern it is – I even use scraps of non-cotton fabrics – they all work fine :) Lately I’ve made gifties for my godson and for a niece – tea towels, hotpads, coasters, tablerunner, placemats, bath mat, pillowcase, travel pillow, gift bag ;) I’ve also recently finished up a baby quilt for our crossing guard, and am making a bunch of flannel baby quilts for a Canadian donation crafting/charity group I belong to. I’m also working on Christmas gifts to try to get ready for the holiday before December 24!
Hmmmmmmmmmmm why am I on the computer – I should be at the sewing machine!! ;)

I’ve been using my remnants to make appliques on my kids’ shirts. I have a few projects in mind for upcoming birthdays that I plan to use my remnants for – beanbags, doll clothes, a doll quilt. I’ve been making a lot of bags lately – I’m a bag lover! and the bags aren’t even for me – one for my mom, one for my s-i-l and one for a swap. Now I’m on to skirts and tops. I find I have more time cut out than to sew lately, so I have a bunch of projects cut waiting to be sewn when I get more than 15 minutes to work on them (I like to sew in long stretches as I don’t have a space to leave my sewing machine out).

I finished making a bedroom set for my son’s room. Quilt was finished in April with a pillow sham and curtain that was finished last week.

My current projects are: a little pink backpack for my 3 yr old niece, a robot-themed wallhanging for my dad for father’s day, and a hot pink rolled knife bag for a caterer friend.
June 5th, 2008 @ 11:36 am
I’ve been cranking out fabric covered buttons to make various hair accessories to sell at Bonnaroo. This has been a great way to use up my scraps from various projects!
June 5th, 2008 @ 11:38 am
I have just started my fledgling fabric “collection” but I have already made my first quilted purse and am ready to get started on a second. Hoping that will be a gateway into quilting starting with a small lap quilt! I’m also knitting some Christmas ornaments, a lace scarf, a pair of socks and dishcloths in my spare time. :-)
June 5th, 2008 @ 11:50 am
I’m going to start cutting jeans today to make a lap quilt for my dad who was paralyzed from the belly down last spring. He gave me all his old jeans that he can no longer wear, and I’m going to make him a quilt. He really needs one for the fall so he can still go to outdoor events without his legs getting cold.

I am constantly inspired by blogs but in reality have little time. Small projects happen on a whim. Most recently, I printed a pattern for softie birds from Spool.
http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/birdpattern1.pdf
Other than that, I need to make some curtains!
June 5th, 2008 @ 12:12 pm
I love trying to make artsy things such as little totes or purses, zippered pouches, aprons, and quilts. Right now I’m in the process of making my son a fireman themed quilt for his bed and I also recently finished making some little onesies with appliqued designs on them. THis is a picture of those onesies. http://mypatchworkquilt.blogspot.com/2008/05/for-little-bambino.html
Soon I hope to learn how to make clothes!
June 5th, 2008 @ 12:26 pm
Right now I’m working on a quilt which is almost completed. A little bit more handquilting left and then binding it and it’s finished! Up next is making a new Ironing board cover and then a summer purse. Hopefully I’ll lots of time this weekend to get sewing!
June 5th, 2008 @ 12:31 pm
Recently I have had the fortune of being in a position to not have to hold down a job and find time and energy for quilting. I now have the time to finish some projects that have been in the works. Some of them are more than 30 years old! My great grandma and grandma taught me to quilt. My theory of quilting has always been to “use what you have.” I try to use from the stash and only purchase fabric when absolutely necessary. I build my stash during visits to garage sales and thrift stores. You can pick up sewing notions for almost nothing most of the time. I am a new “blogger” and trying to get photos of all of my unfinished projects. The one I am currently working on is a red, white and blue quilt I started for my son in the Navy about 4 years ago. I am finding I am in need of red, white and blue fabrics to be able to complete it. I would love to be the random winner. QUILT ON LADIES!
June 5th, 2008 @ 12:43 pm
I am making baby blocks for a friend’s baby. Now, I have not sewn in years but just had my sewing machine cleaned. In my haste to be environmentally conscious and get sewing as soon as possible, I bought two big bags of bamboo (sustainably farmed, antibacterial) filler for the blocks. I finished my first block and started stuffing it. (I expected the two bags to fill two sets of four blocks each.)
It took an entire bag to do one medium sized block. So this one block has now cost me $17.00.
I will be making the new babe a quilt instead. I can’t afford that much filler.

My most recent project- I’m finishing it today!, is a table runner that is a wedding gift on Saturday. I also have been making toddler pants with shirts with matching appliques…some other clothing projects and lots of quilting to be done this summer!
June 5th, 2008 @ 1:01 pm
My favorite current project is a denim quilt for my younger sister. I’m actually quilting the top and back together now and it’s my first time stippling. I heart stippling!
June 5th, 2008 @ 1:11 pm
Right now I want to make a play picnic set for my daughter (I lied, it’s for me) inspired by Joanna’s set. http://mrmonkeysuit.typepad.com/mr_monkeysuit/2008/06/dolly-and-mr-bear-or-what-to-do-on-a-rainy-day.html
June 5th, 2008 @ 1:28 pm
I am a new enthusiastic sewer! I have done some small projects (bibs, totes, etc.). Up next is a quilt for my 4-year olds room. Would love the alien print for that, so cute!! Thanks for the chance to win, you are so generous!
June 5th, 2008 @ 1:30 pm
Wow what a wonderful giveaway! I’m currently working on 2 purses. I will then move to summer tops & shorts for my 6 yr old daughter.
June 5th, 2008 @ 1:50 pm
I have some frogs in the works, for playdate friends, but admit that I have not found my sewing groove for much too long. Maybe these fun remnants are just what I need to kick it in gear!

I love using remnants for doll clothes, boo boo pillows, pin cushions, cast cover (don’t ask) etc. Check out my website and if you can sift through the personal stuff, there are some of my projects on there however I usually forget to take pictures of the little stuff.
June 5th, 2008 @ 2:10 pm
I saw the link at Sew Mama Sew, and I’d love to have a chance at your remnants. I’ve got some garment sewing projects in the offing, and I love to make aprons, too.
June 5th, 2008 @ 2:31 pm
I’d love to have your remnants. My daughters always kid me about saving all those little pieces of fabric, and now one of them is just like me! I mainly make baby gifts because they are so rewarding and, frankly, low stress. Maybe someday I’ll have grandchildren of my own to sew for. I am also in the process of making an apron using Sew Mama Sew’s tutorial. Sew long.
June 5th, 2008 @ 3:51 pm
I have been doing a lot of swaps and making clothes for my two kids. One of these days, I’d like to make a quilt, but in the meantime i’m going to start working on Christmas gifts. I am so not waiting until November like last year! You can see pics of my stuff on my Flickr:http://www.flickr.com/photos/joanna_silva/
June 5th, 2008 @ 4:01 pm
I also saw your contest on the Sew Mama Sew blog and this is my first visit. Right now, I’m working on embellishing some onesies for a new grand niece.
June 5th, 2008 @ 4:03 pm
I just finished making a couple bags, and I am loving mine. You can see them on my blog. Currently I have a cute baby booty crochet pattern that I am experimenting with. Finally I have seen so many cute quilts made with pin wheels, that I am feeling the need to try them out, only problem is that I don’t have a sewing machine!
June 5th, 2008 @ 5:50 pm
I, too, am working on a quilt for the past year and a half. it was supposed to be a christmas present. oops. i have been sneaking hooter hiders and baby shoes in instead. by the way, what a great idea for a giveaway.
June 5th, 2008 @ 6:46 pm
I love remnants. I use my neighbors quilt scraps to make kids clothes and I’ve started a flickr group to help inspire others and vise versa. http://www.flickr.com/groups/735073@N24/
June 5th, 2008 @ 6:49 pm
I have stayed busy making baby quilts, burp cloths and baby blankets for the exploding baby population at church. There’s been 7 or 8 so far this year and 4 more (that I know about) in the oven! I made seven lap blankets for my family for Christmas last year. I finished a large bed quilt for my grandson (took over a year). It had a very large sea turtle that I designed and appliqued. I hand quilted it. Keeps me busy and out of trouble! Found your site through Sew Mama Sew. Count me in!
June 5th, 2008 @ 7:17 pm
I am busy cutting strips to make the first quilt I’ve ever made. It will adorn my 2 year old daughter’s new Big Girl Bed. I’m having a blast! Got a walking foot for my birthday, so I’m ready to give it a spin.
June 5th, 2008 @ 7:38 pm
Thanks for all the comments so far … I’m having fun checking out all your links! Man, so many of you quilt. That’s why I have a hard time using up my remnants … quilting just isn’t my thing. Keep them coming!
June 5th, 2008 @ 8:09 pm
I am a new to quilting and sewing. I just started on this adventure last summer and am such a fabric addict already. I just love it all and want to make everything I see. Your fabrics are beautiful and I’d love to be entered into the contest. Thanks for all the inspiration! Regina
June 5th, 2008 @ 8:18 pm
Thank you for your generous give away. I am currently making a bagsket for my mother. Before that I made cloth diapers for my son. Before those 50 diapers, I think it was his crib bumper and skirt….
June 6th, 2008 @ 1:05 am
Yay for giveaways!
I’ve really been into making jackets and coats. This is something I made for my sister: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27297445@N07/2552696598/
I’m not really sure why I’ve been into jackets right before summer though.

I love remnants. You can make so many goodies, from bibs to dolls. I am making Miss J. a small quilt throw for her bed at the moment. Hope it works. If it
does you can check it out here http://divineserendipity.blogspot.com/
June 6th, 2008 @ 6:59 am
I have a new grandbaby coming in July so most of my sewing has been for him/her! I am also making 2 quilts and some purses….
June 6th, 2008 @ 7:11 am
I’m working on a small art quilt — patchwork sky, rolling hills, coupla trees and my 5-year-old’s drawing of herself and her friend embroidered in the grass. Can’t wait to finish, as I have endless ideas!
June 6th, 2008 @ 8:24 am
I just finished an embroidered tag blanket for my little neice. I also made here some burp cloths. This is a great giveaway.
June 6th, 2008 @ 8:32 am
I like to make doll clothes or fabric collage with my remnants. I peeked at the various projects you made with these fabrics. Very nice things. I love the artwork for your bedroom. I think I may have to try this for my home soon.
June 6th, 2008 @ 8:44 am
I have four pregnant friends right now (with babies due between August and December) so I’ll be busy making little gifts! :) In particular, I’ll be making a baby quilt for one of my friends — the 11th baby quilt I’m making in the past five or six years. :) I’d be thrilled to win this contest! Thank you
June 6th, 2008 @ 9:30 am
Hi. I love remnants — especially someone elses. It’s like a big grab bag of surprises. I have been knitting lately, but am inspired to make a dog collar-for a real dog – reusing existing hardware. Think how spiffy my son’s dog would look with a collar made of such wonderful remnants? Also, I would like to do some needle/sewing kits for my college daughter and her friends. Thanks for offering the remnants!
June 6th, 2008 @ 10:20 am
I’ve just finished 2 “memory” quilts – remember the memory game when we were kids? Find the 2 things that match! I made small quilts, containing 24-30 quilt blocks with only 2 blocks of the same fabric (so it takes 12-15 different fabrics for each one). Picking a theme is fun – I made one that’s a Princess theme with pink and lavendar prints (princesses, flowers, butterflies, hearts), and another that’s bright with bugs, trucks, airplanes – perfect for a little boy. I’d love to include your prints in some of my projects!
June 6th, 2008 @ 12:37 pm
How fun! I’m having so much fun making neat little wallets, handbags, zippered pouches and such, so your remnants would be perfect! :)
June 6th, 2008 @ 7:49 pm
Love your remnants and want to win them. I am presently working on two baby quilts a boy bullseye and a girl bullseye. They are fun. AND I really really need to finish kitchen curtains I started last Fall. Not quite sure how they will all work out… Hope to win from Idaho!
June 7th, 2008 @ 9:58 am
I’ve just finished hand quilting an African themed quilt – I’m in the process of sewing on the binding. I’m also knitting socks and trying to get a handle on my quilting scraps by slowly cutting a few each day into blocks.
Thanks for offering the giveaway, I’m in South Africa, so I don’t mind if you don’t put me in the draw :)
June 7th, 2008 @ 8:02 pm
Hi Sew Mama Sew directed me in your direction. After a quick comment, I will go have a read of your blog. I was looking at the bottom 2 fabrics and they would match the quilt my mum is making CT (resident dd). The sea green and blue curtains will not match but they will. The alien fabric would be incorporated into a shirt for one of CT’s little friends having a second birthday soon. I would probably steal a some aliens for covered buttons (a recent addicition). The blue polka dots would make great tote liners for another friend’s birthday or a frilly little skirt. The blue would match my new tablecloth so napkins and placemats are looking good and make them reversible the white and black. The green I would need to think about. It is one of my favourite colours. :D Oh and I am an Aussie expat with living in Singapore. :D
June 8th, 2008 @ 11:09 pm
I came from Sew Mama Sew, I never thought to frame fabric and I didn’t know Ikea sold fabric but it’s beautiful! Also the nursery! Makes me almost want a little one running around! Almost…
Currently I am working on a bento box quilt, a denim quilt, and a few totes. Too much to do, never enough time!
June 9th, 2008 @ 9:52 am
How big are remnants? I use ’scraps” in my quilts for various techniques… applique, foundation piecing, but also for other projects, like zipper pouches, totes….I could go on!!!!
June 9th, 2008 @ 3:29 pm
I use my scraps for everything. I very seldom through anything away. A small scrap can be used to cover a button. I embroider words on scraps and then attach them to wool felted purses made from old sweaters. I love to sew for children and small scraps are great for applique.
June 17th, 2008 @ 2:35 am
Oooooh, cool fabrics! I have just covered two dining chairs with Mushroom print fabric, i have made a felt coffee table set (placemat and coasters) and i am about to sit down tonight and make a wrap skirt for me!!! Oh, and i am making a cat tunnel for my pussycats!
